Top tipster Andrew Mount, whose selections were showing a profit of 18.7pts to advised prices in the first ten days of January (+14.55pts at SP), has four selections on a busy Wednesday. Though please remember, past success is no guarantee of future profits so keep those stakes sensible. CAPPANANTY CON – (1.05 Lingfield, 1pt each-way, 9/1)
CAPPANANTY CON has form figures over 6f at Lingfield after a recent outing (within 21 days) of 421211344 (3-9) for a profit of £16.50 and can be forgiven his last two defeats.
Rhys Clutterbuck turned his useful wide draw into a bad one when ducking down the inside to challenge on December 15, just missing out on third place at 18-1, and the same pilot never got off the inside rail from stall 1 when fourth to our bet Impeach last week. Christian Howarth is making a name for himself and, with luck, the 7lb claimer will steer a wide course.
NOBLE PEACE – (3.35 Lingfield, 1pt win, 9/2)
NOBLE PEACE goes well at Lingfield at around this time of year (December to February), recording form figures of 61211283143 (4-11) for a profit of £11.50 to the usual £1 stake.
Those figures improve to 12112813 (4-8) in Class 5 or lower company. The veteran only went down narrowly in third when 17-2 for a similar course and distance handicap last week and should again be thereabouts.
ISOBEL MOORE – (4.00 Kempton, 1pt each-way, 10/1)
I wrote the following about Isobel Moore after her debut effort at Kempton on May 19 last year…
‘The Alice Haynes-trainer newcomer ISOBEL MOORE was backed from 50-1 into 10-1 despite being drawn wide in stall 9 of 10. She got no cover and raced keenly as a result, trailing home in last place. She's entered up on turf later this week and is worth keeping a close eye on.’
She ran respectably on turf at Lingfield a couple of weeks later, finishing a 50-1 eighth of 12 (beaten by just over five lengths), before another solid effort in mid-division at Nottingham, where she was third best of the closers in a 28-1 sixth of 12.
Glasstrees, first home of those ridden patiently, was just touched off on her handicap debut when 50-1 at Leicester and Isobel Moore looks a likely improver now that she makes her handicap bow off a lowly mark. She’s well drawn in stall 2 and her trainer’s record with first-time handicappers stands at 21119127035 (4-11) for a profit of £39.50.
DAAFY – (5.00 Kempton, 1pt each-way, 10/1)
DAAFY raced on the slowest part of the track in a 1m handicap at Southwell on New Year’s Day and his seventh-place is easily excused. Poorly drawn in stall 2, he chased the early pace towards the inside rail before weakening in the last half-furlong.
He ran a cracker under patient ride over the same trip and track on his penultimate start, finishing fourth of 14 at 50-1, though there’s not a huge amount of pace in tonight’s race and, with luck, he won’t be too far away in the early stages.
He’s yet to race here but ran well at Chelmsford on his only Polytrack outing at this trip, doing second best of those to come from off the pace in fifth place overall. His sire, The Factor, has had four runners over 1m at Kempton – Albadr, Alqifaar, Manorah and Recuerdame – and all four have won once each (+£3.00) from a total of 16 runs (they also recorded in-the-frame efforts at 20-1, 14-1, 12-1 and 5-1).
