Top tipster Andrew Mount has five selections for Wednesday’s racing
The strong wind, into their faces down the far side, made it difficult for front-runners to hold on at Warwick last Wednesday and I was impressed that VALSE AU TAILLONS was able to make all. That performance was worthy of a hefty upgrade and she should go close at least under a penalty.
Progeny of Milan have a very useful record on their first run back following wind surgery and RAREST DIAMOND is worth a saver with Colin Tizzard in good form. Since wind ops had to be declared in late January 2018, Milan offspring are 13 from 50 over hurdles/fences following the surgery (26%) for a profit of £92.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. Only one of those was trained by Tizzard – Sizing Granite – who won at 7-1. Rarest Diamond wasn’t totally disgraced when a 25-1 fifth of 16 on her handicap debut at Wincanton in February and if she improves for the wind op then 20-1 is too big.
ELIPTIC MOON – (3.45 Dundalk, 1pt Win - 10/1)
It’s not been easy to win around the inside at Dundalk since the new surface was laid and, though drawn in stall 13, that’s where ECLIPTIC MOON challenged when causing a 40-1 upset here last time. Raceform awarded him an excellent speed figure for that effort and this lightly raced three-year-old remains open to further improvement.
TAKEONEFORTHETEAM – (6.35 Kempton, 1pt Each-Way - 11/2)
There’s the possibility of an upset in this 1m handicap – 11-4 favourite I’m Available often meets trouble in running, with comments such as ‘not clear run’ and ‘switched’ cropping up regularly in her close-up comments. She’ll be happier back at this track after her last-time-out Lingfield sixth but her wins and come in fields of 11 or fewer runners and her record in anything bigger (14 are due to go to post today) reads 40903 (0-5). Lovers Moon (4-1 joint second favourite) might get the run of the race out in front but is a seven-race maiden and doesn’t look straightforward. Prize Fighting, the other 4-1 joint second favourite, has a difficult draw in stall 14 and Clive Cox is struggling for winners. TAKEONEFORTHETEAM was beaten under a penalty in Class 6 company here last time but met trouble and won’t be inconvenience by going back up in grade, as they tend to go a little quicker. His full record over course and distance reads 14133144615 (4-11) and he’ll be finishing to good effect.
SANDYMAN – (7.40 Kempton, 1pt Each-Way - 12/1)
In recent years the Paul Cole (now Paul & Oliver Cole) yard has enjoyed considerable success with runners in first-time blinkers, scoring with 14 of the 70 qualifiers since 2012 (20% strike-rate) for a profit of £68.40 to a £1 level stake at SP. Since the start of last year, six of the 13 qualifiers have won for a profit of £69.00. SANDYMAN’s wins have come on turf but he ran well over course and distance last September, finishing just over two lengths behind the winner in a 20-1 fifth. Slow starts have hindered him in his recent outings but, if the blinkers fix that problem, he could win or at least go close here.
