2.10 Cheltenham – L’EAU DU SUD (2pt win – 11/2 William Hill)
Since 2015, eight of the nine renewals of the County Hurdle have been won by either Dan Skelton or Willie Mullins (from 52 runners, +£95.25 to a £1 level stake at SP) and it’s difficult to look beyond their runners today. Bialystok looks best of the Mullins contingent but I much prefer Skelton’s L’EAU DU SUD. He bombed out in the Greatwood Hurdle back in November on his reappearance and first start since a wind operation but bounced back to run second in the Betfair Hurdle, where he probably hit the front too soon. That race is already working out well with the third (Go Dante) and fifth (L’Eau Du Sud’s stablemate Faivoir) running one-two, separated by a nose, in the Imperial Cup.
2.50 Cheltenham – JOHNNYWHO (1pt ew – 12/1 bet365)
The Albert Bartlett has thrown up some surprise results over the years and I’m siding with the Jonjo O’Neill-trained JOHNNYWHO to cause a minor upset. Winner of his only point-to-point start, he justified favouritism in a Taunton bumper (2m, heavy) before a soft-ground 2m4f Carlisle victory on his hurdles debut. The seven-year-old took a big step up in class on his next start, lining up in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle over the extended 2m4f at Newbury where he keep on well from off the pace to finish two lengths behind the winner in fourth. He ran a similar race in the Grade 2 novices’ hurdle here at Cheltenham on Trials Day, doing best of the closers when fourth to the game Gidleigh Park. The step up to 3m will suit and he fits the trends for the Albert Bartlett – since the race was awarded Grade 1 status, 13 of the 16 winners prepped in Graded company and those who ran second, third or fourth in such a race and had been rested for more than four weeks were eight form 39 for a profit of £167.00 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 2.36, A/E = 3.39). For information, the other qualifiers are Lecky Watson, Stellar Story and The Jukebox Man.
3.30 Cheltenham – CORACH RAMBLER (1pt ew – 20/1 William Hill)
Galopin Des Champs last eight runs on left-handed tracks have produced seven wins and a last-fence fall when 12 lengths clear in the Turners at this meeting two years ago. He’s going to be very difficult to beat in his quest to repeat last year’s win in the Cheltenham Gold Cup but, at the available prices, I’d rather take a chance on spring horse CORACH RAMBLER, whose record in March/April stands at 1111 (4-4), including two Cheltenham festival wins (both in the Ultima Handicap Chase) and a Grand National victory. The likely strong gallop will suit, and he’ll be staying on strongly up the hill.
5.30 Cheltenham – SHARED (1pt ew – 66/1 William Hill)
SHARED has a strong preference for racing left-handed, so can be forgiven his last-time out 22-length ninth of 16 in the Imperial Cup at right-handed Sandown. His record left-handed since joining Harry Derham reads 110313 (3-6) and though well beaten in last year’s Fred Winter, the step up in trip to 2m4f could suit and he’s worth an each-way interest.

Cheltenham Gold Cup Runners – Galopin Des Champs Faces 11 Rivals in Big Race Defence
Defending champion Galopin Des Champs headlines a field of 12 that have been declared for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the showpiece of jumps racing’s biggest meeting on Friday.
