Gabrial The Wire – York 5.20 (3pts win – 14-1 bet365, 8-1 generally)

Like most horses owned by Dr Marwan Koukash, GABRIAL THE WIRE runs regularly at Chester. He won three times on the Roodee early in his career but hasn’t looked entirely at home there in his recent starts, recording form figures in the last couple of years of 47086976956 (0-11).

He was sent off as the 5-2 favourite when only sixth of eight at Chester last time and might appreciate a change of scenery. He was an 18-1 Doncaster winner off a handicap mark of 80 when last running away from Chester and is 2lb lower tonight. His two previous York runs produced a fine 25-1 sixth of 18 in a nursery worth £44,000 to the winner (he did second best of the stands’ side group) and a 16-1 fast-ground 7f success last summer when rated 87, and his full record in Class 3 or lower handicaps, at tracks other than Chester, stands at 211101 (4-6) for a profit of £42.00.

The runner-up effort (12-1) came in a field of just five runners when the odds-on Godolphin winner was allowed to dominate and the other defeat – a 33-1 tenth of 17 at Haydock – can be blame on a poor draw.

17.20 John Wright Electrical Stakes (Apprentice Handicap)

Warrior Brave – Cork 7.15 (1pt each-way – 18/1 generally)

The Wokingham at Royal Ascot strongly favoured high draws and 50-1 shot WARRIOR BRAVE (stall 3) did well to finish 14th of 26 runners from his low berth.

The cut back to 5f won’t inconvenience and, though get to win in four starts since joining Ross O’Sullivan from Mick Appleby, he’s worth chancing at generous odds.

19.15 Doneraile Handicap
