ATASER finished a promising 28-1 fourth on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course when he made his juvenile debut in June 2020 and went on to record form figures of 1211 (3-4) on his other four two-year-old outings, with the defeat excusable as he raced closer to the early pace than ideal over 6f at Ascot.
He only had two runs last year – finishing well beaten in the Britannia Stales over 1m at Royal Ascot before a respectable 12-1 fifth at Doncaster when best of those to come from off the pace. He was gelded over the winter and can be forgiven defeats on his first two runs this term, as both came over 1m.
The drop back to 7f saw him return to winning ways over course and distance last time, taking his record at the trip to 1151 (3-4). He only went up 4lb for that win and there could be plenty more to come. He looks well drawn in the middle and should encounter a decent pace to chase.
Mitrosonfire – 5.11 Ascot (1pt win – 9-1 William Hill, 8-1 generally)
MITROSONFIRE needs at least a couple of runs each season before reaching peak fitness and, once he’s had them, his record in high summer (June to August) reads 211751114 (5-9).
He won over course and distance off a 2lb lower mark last summer and his only other visit to this venue saw him finish a close-up fourth off a 2lb higher mark in October when doing best of those to race up with the pace. He should get a good tow into the race from Antiphon.
