KILCONQUHAR – 3.00 Ayr (1pt win – 6/1 Bet365, 9/2 generally)

KILCONQUHAR is not certain to encounter the required strong pace, but the top weight has been running well from poor draws at Hamilton in his recent starts, including when runner-up by a neck last time. Fast ground suits, he handles this track despite only having won at Hamilton/Newcastle and, with luck, he’ll get a good tow into the race from the first-time blinkered Cotai Class in the next-door stall. Aiden Brookes looks good value for his 7lb claim and is nine from 45 in Class 6 handicaps on turf for a profit of £34.75.

LONGBOURN – 7.05 Ballinrobe (2pts win – 3/1 Bet365, Hills)

I wrote the following piece about LONGBOURN in Racing & Football Outlook after his Royal Ascot run last month…
‘They took no prisoners up front in the 1m4f Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot last Friday and the race was teed up nicely for the closers. Perpetual runner-up Ajero ran a blinder on the front end and the performance of fifth-placed Kelly’s Dino can also be upgraded but the run of 14th home LONGBOURN might go under the radar. He led Ajero in the early stages but was headed just after three out and hit the wall with a furlong and a half to go. Ross O Sullivan’s 66-1 shot has done his winning over 1m1f-1m2f and will be very interesting when dropped in trip.’
Hr drops back down to 9.5f tonight and could take some catching in this small field.
