RARE CLOUDS did this column a 28-1 favour when scoring over course and distance last month on his first start since a wind operation. That was also his first start since catching the eye in the ‘swamp’ round the inside at Leicester in mid-December. It was only a 0-100 Class 5 handicap last time but that fourth and seventh both won next time and the form looks solid for the grade. He’s worth a small interest to follow up in a race that should be run to suit.

YOUTHFUL KING – 7.05 Windsor (1pt win – 11-2 generally)
YOUTHFUL KING was a big eyecatcher at Sandown last September when a 200-1 fifth on his second career outing. I highlighted at the son of Fountain Of Youth as one to bear in mind for handicaps on turf (his sire’s progeny do far better on grass than on the all-weather), so I didn’t have a penny on when he won a Polytrack novice at 16-1 on his next outing. Since then, he’s run with credit on several occasions without winning but I think today could be the day that he breaks his turf duck. The small field will help where his prominent running style is concerned and he clocked a fast time when a 40-1 seventh of 13 (beaten by four lengths) in a Class 4 Sandown handicap last time, his first run over 1m2f. He drops to Class 5 company for the first time on turf.
