1.50 – Ascot – THE KING OF RYHOPE (1pt win – 25/1 bet365)

The KING OF RYHOPE is a very big price considering he’s only 8lb off the top rated in this weak Grade 2 contest and though only a 21-length third of four in similar company at Wetherby last time and the better ground will suit. His sole chase run on ground faster than soft saw him win at Chepstow and his full record on good to soft or faster going stands at 131 (2-3).

Sodexo Live! Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race)

3.15 Haydock – FAMOUS BRIDGE (1pt win – 13/2 William Hill)

FAMOUS BRIDGE has form figures when returned to the track within six weeks of his previous outing of 12U141111P (6-10), improving to 1214111 (5-7) on good to soft or softer going. Ground conditions were much too quick when he was pulled up at Doncaster last time (he wasn’t helped by a bad mistakes at the third fence either) and the return to Haydock where he’s unbeaten in two starts will suit.

Virgin Bet Grand National Trial Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)

3.50 Haydock – CUTHBERT DIBBLE (2pt win – 5/2 bet365)

CUTHBERT DIBBLE, one of my ten horses to follow for the current season, did this column a good turn when winning well backed at Chepstow on his reappearance last month to make it three wins from his last four starts. The only defeat in that spell came when favourite to beat Crambo and co in the EBF Final at Sandown where he did second best of the hold-up horses in fifth place. Fourth-placed Etalon, the only patiently-ridden rival to beat him, is three from three since and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ six-year-old should have plenty more to offer on his first start beyond 2m4f.

Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race)

4.10 Ascot – LOUP DE MAULDE (1pt ew- 5/1 bet365)

LOUP DE MAULDE went without his usual cheekpieces but still ran a cracker in the Pertemps Qualifier at Huntingdon on last month’s belated reappearance, finding only one too good in a field of 13. He had the progressive White Rhino almost five lengths back in third and the headgear goes back on today. He placed on his reappearance without headgear last term before scoring next time out in the re-applied cheekpieces and his record right-handed for his current yard now reads 3121122 (3-7), suggesting each-way claims once again.
