12.44 Wetherby – JUNGLE JACK (2pt win – 7/4 generally)

Nells Son will be all the rage for this 1m7f novices’ limited handicap chase after he scored comfortably on his return to fences at Carlisle last time, but he benefitted from a pace collapse that day and is not sure to follow up. Donald McCain’s handicap chase debutant JUNGLE JACK is the bet – he’s landed six of his ten starts if we include his point-to-point form and, though only ninth at Aintree when we last saw him in the spring, he was 20-1 for a 20-runner Grade 3 handicap hurdle and did beat more than half the field. The break will have done him good – he’s two from two on his seasonal debuts – and, since the beginning of 2021, his yard is 16 from 57 with handicap chase debutants for a profit of £37.43 to a £1 level stake at SP.

1.45 Cheltenham – WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT (1.5pt win – 5/1 generally) + WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT to beat MISTER COFFEY (0.5pt computer straight forecast/Tote Exacta)

WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT was a big eyecatcher on his seasonal/hurdles debut last term, staying on into third in a 2m5f Grade 2 novices’ hurdle won by Hermes Allen at this meeting. He built on that with a game Cheltenham win on New Year’s Day, despite making the running into the headwind. His two subsequent hurdle runs took place in Grade 1 company and he was far from disgraced when 50-1 seventh of 20 in the Albert Bartlett, doing third best of the British contingent. There was plenty to like about last month’s chase debut when third to Flooring Porter (rated 21lb his superior over hurdles) over today’s track and trip and he’s sure to improve for that experience. MISTER COFFEY’s tendency to finish second, as he has in five of his nine chase starts, makes him the ideal forecast option.

2.05 Navan – HOME BY THE LEE (2pt win – 7/2 generally)

Progeny of Fame And Glory tend to improve with age and backing all the eight and nine-year-olds (the sire’s oldest crop) would have returned a profit about £90 to a £1 level stake at SP after Foxy Jacks’ Cheltenham win yesterday. HOME BY THE LEE pulled up in the Grade 1 Liverpool Hurdle when we last saw him, but he runs exceptionally well when fresh, with form figures on his first two starts each season (from October 1st) of 1121112211 (7-10). He won this Grade 2 contest 28-1 on his reappearance and the eight-year-old can repeat the dose, albeit at a much shorter price.
