1.20 Doncaster – ASTRAL BEAU (1pt win – 4/1 Betfred, Coral)
ASTRAL BEAU won this 1m Listed event 12 months ago and Pam Sly’s veteran can repeat the dose. Best fresh with plenty of cut in the ground, he caused a 50-1 shock at Leicester on his debut back in April 2022 and was returning from a 154-day absence when landing this race by four lengths last year. His full record on ground described as good to soft or softer stands at 112113 (4-6), with the first defeat in a 19-runner handicap at York and the other in a Group 2 contest at Newmarket.
1.30 Bangor – JUNGLE JACK (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, William Hill)
Donald McCain’s JUNGLE JACK split Cracking Rhapsody and Ginger Mail when second by a neck in a 2m handicap hurdle at Kelso last month and that form was franked when winner/third ran one-two in the Morebattle Hurdle when returned to Kelso next time. Jungle Jack missed a possible engagement in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham to run here in a race he landed last year, and the hint should be taken.
2.40 Newbury – HELTENHAM (2pt win – 15/8 Sky Bet)
HELTENHAM tends to struggle on sharp tracks and he clearly appreciated the return to a galloping venue when landing the Greatwood Gold Cup over course and distance last time. His combined record at Newbury, Ffos Las, Chepstow and Newcastle – all galloping tracks – stands at 21111 (4-5) and he won this race by five and a half lengths last year.
3.35 Doncaster – SPIRIT GENIE (0.5pt ew – 40/1 Betfair Sportsbook, Paddy Power)
Having made cases for The Gatekeeper and Thunder Ball on GG’s Weekend Watch vide/podcast I’m deserting the pair for one at a much bigger price – SPIRIT OF GENIE (stall 22). The Jennie Candlish-trained four-year-old hasn’t had many opportunities on straight tracks on turf and her two such runs for her current yard produced a wide-margin win in a soft-ground 7f seller at Leicester and a half-length 28-1 second of 14 over 1m/heavy at Newmarket when best of those to come from off the pace. His patient style will be an asset if the forecast headwind materialises, and he looks over-priced.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Nicky Henderson is out of form and his runners should be avoided at the Cheltenham Festival
