Whitefeathersfall – Goodwood 1.50 (0.5pt each-way – 20/1 Ladbrokes, 18/1 bet365, Coral)
WHITEFEATHERSFALL is the sole representative from the Charlie & Mark Johnston yard from their three four-day entries. The son of Zoffany was a shade unlucky not to get into the frame in the 7f nursery at this meeting last year, meeting trouble before going down by four lengths at 28-1. HIs yard won this in 2013, 2014, 2018 and again last year.
They also saddled the runner-up in 2012, 2016 and 2020. Whitefeathersfall was sent off at 10-1 in a six-runner 1m1f handicap at Carlisle on his belated reappearance earlier this month but won well and there could be plenty more to come over this extra furlong.
Lilac Road – Goodwood 3.35 (1pt win – 6-1 generally)
Dreamloper – Goodwood 3.35 (1pt win – 15-2 Coral, 13/2 generally)
I want to oppose odds-on favourite Nashwa now she takes on older horses, as the three-year-old fillies are a modest bunch this year. I want two of the four-year-olds on my side – LILAC ROAD, whose record over this 1m2f trip on turf reads 2121 (2-4) with both defeats by just half a length – and DREAMLOPER, who reportedly never travelled on the soft going when only sixth at the Curragh last time. That run aside, her record in single-figure line-ups since her racecourse debut stands at 2111 (3-4), with the defeat by a short head to the progressive Lights On. She has won in bigger fields on straight courses but does seem to find trouble on turning tracks when there are plenty of runners.
Sophie’s Star – Goodwood 4.45 (1pt each-way – 16-1 generally)
SOPHIE’S STAR was a big eyecatcher over 6f at Chester last time – she was the widest drawn of the three frontrunners in a seven-runner line-up and they dropped away to fill the last three places. Sophie’s Star fared best of them and clearly didn’t see out the 6f trip.
Coming back to her optimum 5f trip from what could be a good draw in stall 13 makes her very playable at around the 16-1 mark. Her two runs at this trip since leaving the Kark Burke yard for Roger Fell have produced a 5f Musselburgh win at 40-1 and a close-up 20-1 fourth in Listed company at Ayr.
