8.30 Wolverhampton – RAINTOWN (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 generally)
RAINTOWN won twice at about this time last year, including a comfortable 8.6f Wolverhampton success on his sole previous outing on Tapeta. The other win came over 1m2f at Lingfield and, though yet to win over today’s 1m4f trip, his Kempton fourth over 1m3f on December 6th suggests that it could be within reach. They went hard up front that day and the race was set the race up for the closers, with five of the first seven finishers coming from midfield or further back. Stan Moore’s four-year-old travelled well on the heels of the strong early pace and moved up to dispute the lead over one furlong out. However, he couldn’t sustain his effort on his first run for 99 days and came home less than two lengths behind the winner. That form has since been boosted by runner-up Ocean Heights, a 7-1 winner back at Kempton next time, and though Raintown was only sixth at Lingfield on his next start (1m2f), he was switched to the ‘dead’ rail to challenge and didn’t pick up. He should get a good tow into the race today and is worth a small bet to maintain that 100% record on Tapeta.
