1.00 Lingfield – ALACRITY (1pt E/W – 14/1 Bet365, 12/1 generally)
Andrew Balding has a great record with his second-time out two-year-olds, especially those who were beaten on their debuts but ran within ten lengths of the winner. Since he began training in 2006, he’s won with 105 of the 427 qualifiers (24.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £83.11 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who debuted on turf were 90 from 343 (26.2%) for a profit of £106.00. The strike-rate increases to 36.2% (21 winners from 58 runners, +£48.07) for those switching from turf to the all-weather and ALACRITY, too green to do herself justice when third of six on fast ground at Redcar in late September, can be expected to improve considerably for that experience.
3.30 Dundalk – FLYING BAY (1pt win – 16/1 Bet365 + William Hill, 14/1 generally)
Overnight mover FLYING BAY drifted out to 16-1 on race day morning but the second wave of support arrived, and Andrew Kinirons’ newcomer was sent off at just 9-2 for the 7f Pat “The Duke” Leavy Irish EBF Maiden at the Curragh on September 24th. He raced in touch with the leaders, briefly looked threatening but became outpaced approaching two out and weakened into a modest fifth in the final furlong. That experience won’t have been wasted on him this Irish 2,000 Guineas entry is worth a speculative interest despite taking on some interesting types from bigger yards.
