1.50 York – INTRINSIC BOND (1.5pt win — 8/1 Bet365, 6/1 generally)

Oisin Murphy has a seven from 34 record in handicaps at York’s Ebor meeting for a profit of £50.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and I’m expecting him to get a tune out of INTRINSIC BOND in this 5f 89y contest. The six-year-old has improved since joining current trainer Michael Wigham, recording RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) of 105 and 109 when finishing first and second over 5f at Ascot (he failed to register a rating above 101 previously). He has the forcing style so effective in sprints at York and I’m not too worried about the presence of other pace angles as hold-up horses are just one from 106 in the past ten renewals of this race and we see the pace hold up time and time again, despite the pace map suggesting a burn-up. Last year’s first and fourth, BERGERAC and NOMADIC EMPIRE, should go well again and are regarded as the chief threats, along with LOOKING FOR LYNDA, who did best of the prominent racers when fourth at Windsor the other day. The quartet are all drawn middle-to-low which is likely to be advantageous on recent evidence.

4.45 York – VADAMIAH (0.5pt E/W — 25/1 Bet365, 28/1 generally)

Paul Midgley’s VADAMIAH tried to take full advantage of her stands’ rail draw (stall 17 of 17) when reappearing at Musselburgh after a 262-day layoff , blasting off against the fence and making the running at a strong pace. She hung to the right in the closing stages and was passed by four horses described by the Racing Post as ‘midfield’, ‘towards rear’, ‘in rear’ and ‘towards rear’. It was a solid effort in the circumstances, and I duly bet her at Haydock next time where she trailed home last of the nine runners (8-1). The subsequent ten-week break and wind operation suggests an obvious excuse that day and Paul Midgley’s last two runners to return from wind surgery won at 22-1 and 5-1. She has the ideal run style for this track, looks well drawn in stall 4 and could prove hard to catch.
