1.40 Lingfield – INCONSPICUOUS (1pt win – 14/1 generally)
Frankie’s Dream arrived late to cause a 16-1 surprise at Wolverhampton on January 4th but has been beaten at short odds twice since, including over today’s course and distance. During the freezing spell a couple of weeks ago it was a case of the later/wider the better at Lingfield, but the track has been kinder to early pace at the last few meetings and his patient running style might leave him vulnerable again. Toolatetonegotiate is interesting on speed figures, but she’ll need luck in running from stall 2 if ridden patiently as usual. Dubai Magic doesn’t have much to find with Frankie’s Dream on Wolverhampton form but remains a maiden and is stuck out wide. Those three dominate the early market but I’d rather side with Michael Keady’s INCONSPICUOUS, who drops in trip in the first-time blinkers on his stable debut after running over 7f-1m in his recent starts. I like the booking of Sean Levey, who rides this course and distance well, and his stable is in good form.

2.38 Doncaster – RIALANNAH (1pt win – 8/1 generally but likely to drift)
RIALANNAH doesn’t look an obvious play after pulling up at Southwell last time when we helped to crash her price, but she raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail and didn’t seem to enjoy the fixed brush style hurdles. The other two swamp-dwellers from that race finished last of the finishers (5-1 fifth Kalista Love) and also pulled up (5-2 favourite Molto Bene), suggesting that track position was key. Rialannah had gone into my tracker after her reappearance fourth at Market Rasen in mid-October where she attracted very strong support despite her yard’s break-returners having a terrible record in the early months of the season. She pulled up at Bangor next time but took a step in the right direction when third over the extended 2m3f at Doncaster in late November and built on that with a Huntingdon fourth just over a week later (2m4.5f, soft). Both of those runs hinted that the step up to today’s 3m trip would suit and the market has over-reacted to her latest, easily excusable, effort. At the time of writing, she was 20 on the Betfair exchange (19-1 in old money) but a best-priced 8-1 (bet365) with the firms, who’ll no doubt come into line later this morning and push her price out. Hold fire until 10-1/12-1+ is available would be my advice.
