3.08 Cartmel – REEL HER IN (1pt win – 13/2 888sport, 6/1 generally)
REEL HER IN has yet to win over hurdles but looks worth a bet based on last month’s 2m1f Flat win at Carlisle when the only winner on the card to come from off the pace. Fourth-placed Artic Fox, second best of those ridden patiently, was a 16-1 winner when returned to Carlisle for her next outing to give the form a boost. Ben Haslam fits the five-year-old with a first-time tongue-tie today and that’s been a profitable angle for the yard’s runners (+£18.50 to a £1 level stake at SP).
7.45 Newmarket – MINI MAC (0.5pt e/w – 11/2 bet365 – bigger on the exchanges and might be worth waiting until mid-morning, as I’m expecting him to drift)
SAXONIA heads the betting at around 2-1 for this 1m handicap on the strength of his last time out course and distance neck second but he’s only won a Newcastle maiden (5-6 favourite) from 12 starts and Charlie Johnston’s front-runner could again be vulnerable, especially as he faces competition for the early lead from CLASSIC SPEED. Take him on with MINI MAC, who fared best of the closers when a one-length fourth in the same course and distance race last time. That was only the second time that Christine Dunnett’s three-year-old had been ridden by Benoit De La Sayette – the other resulted in a 33-1 Nottingham win.
