I want to oppose two horses in this 2m3f handicap chase – top weight Largy Force, an eight-race maiden under rules who is clearly happier on a left-handed track (she tends to jump and hang to her left), and Joe Cotton, whose one-length Lingfield runner-up effort flattered him as he raced wide on the better ground. I’ve gone round in circles trying to find the best alternative and the one I’ve settled on is CAPTAIN BOUDET who made a successful chase debut at Hereford on his penultimate start when fitted with a first-time tongue-tie. Very heavy ground was blamed for his subsequent Wincanton eclipse, and he could bounce back at a value price now fitted with first-time blinkers and racing on better ground.

8.15 Newcastle – KING’S SCHOOL (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Front-runners enjoyed the best of things at Newcastle’s meeting on February 27th and KING’S SCHOOL deserves extra credit for his close-up fifth to William Dewhirst (“made virtually all” in the 7f Class 4 handicap as he dwelt at the start and raced in the rear (he also met trouble). Gemma Tutty’s four-year-old won twice over course and distance late last year when rated 70 and 72 and runs off 71 tonight in a race that should be run at a reasonable gallop.
