4.30 Wincanton – SOMESPRING SPECIAL (2pt win – 5/2 bet365, William Hill, 888sport)
This 2m4f handicap chase looks very playable today as 9-4 second favourite JARAMILLO jumps out to his left and is unlikely to prove effective at this right-handed venue. The Warren Greatrex-trained seven-year-old has won two of his 13 starts on left-handed tracks, beating 55.48% of his rivals in those 13 outings, but has failed to win this way around, beating only 49.14 of those he was up against, recording form figures of 20P942 (0-6). Current 2-1 favourite PEPE LE MOKO has been struggling to get his head in front and may prefer softer going, and the best alternative is SOMESPRING SPECIAL, who tends to live up to her name and come to life at this time of year. The seven-year-old caught the eye when a 33-1 third in maiden hurdle company here on March 1st 2023, before winning her first two handicap outings, both at Fontwell in April/May of the same year. Last year, she returned from a 117-day absence to win a handicap chase at Fontwell in mid-April when tipped in this column and double up at Chepstow just four days later. Her full record in the March to May period reads 311115 (4-6) and there could be improvement to come when she makes her debut for the in-form (detective agency) team of Hobbs and White on the back of a break.
