5.45 Windsor – SPEED OF MAAJID (1pt win – 11/4 Ladbrokes, Coral, 5/2 generally)
The Robert Cowell-trained SPEED OF MAAJID has needed both of his seasonal debuts, finishing an 80-1 13th of 14 on his juvenile bow at Goodwood last summer and eighth of ten at Wolverhampton on his three-year-old return in May on the back of a gelding operation. However, his two other runs have been most encouraging – the son of Mayson ran second to Lexington Blitz (now rated 87) in a Chepstow novice last September where he had recent York winner Frankies Dream (now rated 84) three lengths back in third and, this term, won by almost three lengths in a 5f handicap at Yarmouth. He clocked a good time at Yarmouth, and he could still be well handicapped despite being shoved up 9lb to a mark of 71.
7.15 Windsor – TOCA MADERA (2pt win, 9/2 Ladbrokes, Spreadex, 4/1 generally)
TOCA MADERA has raced here twice previously, beating course expert Regal Envoy into second place over this 6f trip last August and finishing a close-up fourth behind the same rival over 5f last month. Brian Meehan’s gelding clocked a fast time for his latest effort and that form has been well advertised, with the winner following up over the same course and distance, runner-up Existent (very hard to win with) placing third in the “Dash” at Epsom, sixth-placed Paddy’s Day scoring at Newcastle at 8-1 last week, Ziggy’s Missile, beaten by 12 lengths into seventh of eight, scoring at Chelmsford two runs later after finishing down the field in the “Dash” and last-placed Twilight Jet going down by just three-quarters of a length when 33-1 for the 6f handicap at Epsom o Derby Day. The step back up to 6f will suit. INDIAN RUN looks the main threat and I’ll be saving on in-form Julie Camacho’s runner.
