3.30 Newcastle – SO LADYLIKE (0.5pt win – 12/1 bet365, 888Sport, 11/1 generally)
SO LADYLIKE signed off last year with a front-running soft-ground Hexham win on June 1st and returned from 236-day break with a respectable 28-1 fourth at Wetherby on January 23rd. He took a backwards step at Doncaster last month, finishing 13th of 14 behind Jukebox Fury in a 3m handicap hurdle at Doncaster but that was a hot race for a Class 5 and it’s working out well – the winner followed up at Wetherby, the runner-up/third ran one-two at Taunton, the fifth finished second by a head in a 16-runner handicap hurdle at Ayr, the 38-length ninth went on to run a respectable 20-1 (from 66-1) fourth at Wetherby and the 43-length 12th scored at 33-1 at Southwell on his next outing. So Ladylike did too much too soon that day before and it worth a very small/speculative interest now back in a small field.
4.15 Wincanton – LA DOCLE DOLLY (1pt win – 15/8 William Hill, 888sport)
LA DOLCE DOLLY was withdrawn twice on soft ground before her respectable four-length 14-1 fourth at Market Rasen last month (2m4f, good to soft), a run that might have been needed after a seven-week break. Andy Irvine’s six-year-old improved for the combination of 3m1f/good ground at Plumpton 20 days later, scoring by three-quarters of a length at 7-1 after getting in a prolonged duel with runner-up Despereaux. She clocked a good speed figure for that victory and can follow up, despite the possibility that she’ll get taken on for the early lead again.
