2.40 Warwick – FINEST VIEW (2pt win)

FINEST VIEW tends to come good in the spring, with five of her six wins coming from late March until late May (the other came in an all-weather maiden bumper in the month of February). Alan King’s mare has yet to shine over fences, but both her chase runs came at the wrong time of year – a modest third of six (5-2 favourite) at Kempton in November of last year and a fifth of six at Hereford (11-4 favourite) the following month. Good ground suits and, with some son on her back, we should see a contrasting performance on her return from a winter break. Her record from March to May below Class 3 level reads 1112 (3-4) and she drops into Class 5 company for the first time since that all-weather bumper success.

5.30 Kempton – THE SPOTLIGHT KID (1pt win)

THE SPOTLIGHT KID is best late off a strong pace and it’s no coincidence that his four wins have come in big fields. His full record in handicaps of 13 or more runners reads U11711 (4-6) for a profit of £12.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. In Class 6 company only, those figures improve to 1111 (4-4). Dean Ivory’s six-year-old drops back down to Class 6 level after his fourth of ten in a 1m handicap here on his latest start and he’s fitted with a first-time visor (he won in first-time cheekpieces and finished third in first-time blinkers previously). A strong pace doesn’t look guaranteed, despite the big field, but Roach Power (worth a saver if the money arrives) may tow them along (he has been ridden patiently since joining Michael Wigham but run three times from the front for Tim Easterby and the booking of Silvestre De Sousa could signal a change in tactics) and Bold Suitor could also put pace to the race.
