2.27 Redcar – KEATS HOUSE (1pt win – 9/1 888sport, 17/2 William Hill, 8/1 generally) & ROSEZAN (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 bet365, four places)
KEATS HOUSE has been campaigned over 5f-7f, ending last year with a modest fifth (9-4 favourite) in a 5f nursery at Newcastle on his first start since a gelding operation. Michael and David Easterby’s three-year-old might do better now up in trip to 1m for the first time and his yard’s handicappers typically run well at this time of year. Since 2012, they have a 47 from 346 (13.6% strike-rate) record in turf handicaps in March/April for a profit of £93.75 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 29.57, A/E = 1.59). He’s reasonably drawn in stall 6 and the stable is in good form.
I want to back ROSEZAN who has the best of the draw in stall 1. The daughter of Ardad ran with credit on the all-weather over the winter and her sire’s progeny have a superior strike-rate on turf – 9.94% strike-rate as opposed to 6.48% – and an aggressive ride in first-time blinkers against the far rail could be just the ticket.
6.30 Kempton – ATLANTIC GAMBLE (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
ATLANTIC GAMBLE disappointed on his handicap debut at Windsor last April, finishing seventh of 12, but took off shortly afterwards, recording form figures of 1111311 (6-7) for the remainder of 2024. His record in Kempton handicaps reads 111 (3-3) and, being by Lightning Spear, there could be even more to come in his four-year-season. His sire’s progeny have a cracking record in all-weather handicaps, landing 17 of their 97 starts for a profit of £25.95 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 11.78, A/E = 1.44).
