2.15 Ayr – KABRAL DU MATHAN (1pt win – 7/2 bet365, William Hill) & OOH BETTY (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair)
The Paul Nicholls-trained KABRAL DU MATHAN fared best of those to come from off the pace when runner-up to Secret Squirrel at Windsor last time and several other patiently-ridden runners from that hot 2m handicap hurdle have performed well since, notably the 11th (Go Dante) and sixth (Wreckless Eric) who finished one-two in the Imperial Cup. He missed Cheltenham and Aintree to wait for this and holds solid claims for his in-form yard.
OOH BETTY’s patient running style put her at a disadvantage in the Imperial Cup where her mid-division effort, on ground slower than preferred, was worthy of an upgrade. Her record in April/May reads 2112 (2-4) and mares have a good recent record in this race.
3.12 Newbury – TWO TEMPTING (1pt win – 16/1 William Hill, 14/1 generally)
TWO TEMPTING has shortened up since I tipped him on GG’s Weekend Watch on Thursday but there’s still juice in the price. Jonny Portman’s six-year-old made a pleasing return when fifth of 12 in the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton last month and it’s easy to forgive his subsequent 33-1 16th of 22 in the Lincoln itself as he raced much closer to the early pace than ideal and got no cover from the strong headwind. We’d have made a profit of £30.33 by backing him blind during his 33-race career (seven wins) and he’s worth a punt despite the suspicion that he’d prefer a sharper track.
3.35 Ayr – BRANDT (0.5pt e/w – 22/1 bet365, 20/1 generally) & FLASH DE TOUZAINE (0.5pt e/w – 28/1 Ladbrokes, BetVictor)
Last time out winners have won five of the past six renewals of the Scottish Grand National and I want to throw each-way darts at two of the four qualifiers – BRANDT and FLASH DE TOUZAINE. The first-named took his record over 3m1f or further to 221 (1-3) when arriving late to land a handicap chase over the extended 3m4f trip at Leopardstown on his latest outing and Sean Bowen is a positive booking. FLASH DE TOUZAINE is 4lb lower than when keeping on into a 40-1 third behind Kitty’s Light in this race two years ago and bounced back to winning ways over 2m7f on good to yielding ground at Limerick last month. The drying ground is ideal and he can run another big race at an each-way price.

Andrew’s Angles – How to Find Early-season Profits with Two-Year-Olds
With Cheltenham and Aintree behind us I’m going to turn my attention to the Flat turf season and attempt to identify some profitable angles. Two-year-old races can be a turn-off for punters at this time of year as we’re usually dealing with a host of unraced horses but there are plenty of winner-finding angles… Foaling…
