Sandown’s jumps finale looks a card to remember but there’s plenty of action happening elsewhere. Andrew Mount has picked out three best bets across Sandown, Haydock and Navan.

2.40 Haydock – MYAL (2pt win – 7/2 generally)
MYAL, whose record in handicap company over today’s 7f trip reads 1111 (4-4), ran an incredible race into the headwind in the Spring Mile at Doncaster last month. Steph Hollinshead’s four-year-old raced prominently then swept into the lead two furlongs out before losing out in the final half furlong to late closers Thunder Roar (“held up in rear”) and Pearl Eye (“held up in rear”). Backed from 12-1 into 6-1 that day, he was clearly the best horse in the race and the form has already been boosted by the front-running 18th, Our Havana (beaten by more than 15 lengths), who scored at Musselburgh next time. He’s two from two over course and distance (good to firm/heavy) and today’s ground should be fine for him. Throw in the presence of front-runner Gorak to tow him along and he looks worth a decent bet.
4.10 Sandown – MINELLA COCOONER (1pt e/w – 7/1 bet365)
My Grand National pick MINELLA COCOONER did supremely well to finish the race because of a slipped saddle, let alone finish seventh and look a likely winner at one stage, trading at an in-running price of 5.00 from a Betfair SP of 23.65. That took his record on good to soft or faster going t0 111221897 (4-9) for a profit of £15.20 to a £1 level stake at SP. The other two unplaced efforts came in Grade 1 company behind Galopin Des Champs earlier this season when getting handicapped for Aintree was likely the primary concern.
5.00 Navan – YES OUI SI (0.5pt e/w – 18/1 generally with the firms paying five places)
The first three home in the course and distance handicap won by Hurricane Helen on April 8th were described by the Racing Post as “midfield”, “midfield” and “held up in midfield”, typical for a big-field apprentice handicap. The fifth (“held up in rear”) and sixth (“towards rear”) were also ridden patiently and it was the performance of fourth-placed YES OUI SIR that caught the eye. Jessica Harrington’s four-year-old raced up with the pace out wide and took up the running three out before getting passed with just over one furlong to run. She did well to remain in the frame and the removal of headgear may have helped (she goes without it again here). There isn’t masses of early pace in today’s race, despite the big field, and she’s worth a small each-way punt.

Andrew’s Angles – How to Find Early-season Profits with Two-Year-Olds
With Cheltenham and Aintree behind us I’m going to turn my attention to the Flat turf season and attempt to identify some profitable angles. Two-year-old races can be a turn-off for punters at this time of year as we’re usually dealing with a host of unraced horses but there are plenty of winner-finding angles… Foaling…
