2.00 Newbury – SANTA SAVANA (0.5pt ew – 40/1 William Hill)
SANTA SAVANA has plenty to find on official ratings but is worth a small each-way interest in this 7f fillies’ Listed contest, as she’ll handle the very soft ground. Rod Millman’s two-year-old made a winning debut on good to soft going at Leicester back in the spring and recorded her career-best RPR (Racing Post Rating) when a three-length fourth of nine in a hot fillies’ handicap on soft ground at Newmarket last time, doing best of those to come from off the pace. SUPERMODEL is the obvious danger and I’ll be playing the pair in a reversed forecast/Tote Exacta.

2.20 Cheltenham – DOES HE KNOW (1pt win – 12/1 William Hill) & CHASING FIRE (1pt win – 12/1
bet365, William Hill)
DOES HE KNOW tends to come to hand early, recording form figures in October/November of 22111112F1 (6-10). Kim Bailey’s nine-year-old has to carry top weight of 12-00 but he runs well when fresh and has form figures on Cheltenham’s Old Course of 1151201 (4-7). He’s had a wind operation since pulling up at Sandown in April and his yard’s early-season (October to December) runners who were returning from a break of at least 150 days have a great solid recent record, landing 32 of their 122 starts since 2021 for a profit of £54.75 to a £1 level stake at SP.
CHASING FIRE is another who runs extremely well when fresh, with form figures on his seasonal debuts or when rested for at least 40 days of 11111U21 (6-8). The majority of the wins came over trips of about 2m he won over 3m at Perth when we last saw him and there could be plenty more improvement to come over staying trips.
4.55 Chelmsford – SWEET FANTASTIC (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
SWEET FANTASTIC was clear best of the rest when a well-held 11-1 runner-up to William Haggas’ Nardra (6-5f favourite) in a 6f soft-ground novice contest at Haydock on last month’s debut and looks set to improve for the switch to Chelmsford’s Polytrack. In-form Hugo Palmer has a fine record with progeny of Lope De Vega on the all-weather, scoring with 16 of the 43 qualifiers (37.2%) for a profit of £34.67 to a £1 level stake at SP. At Chelmsford only their record reads 21112111342732 (7-15), including two from two with those making their all-weather debuts (9-1 and 9-2).

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Stratford Massively Favours Front-Runners So Don’t Back Hold-Up Horses This Saturday
It’s Champions Day at Ascot this Saturday (October 19th) but I want to concentrate on one of the supporting meetings – Stratford’s jumps fixture. In the past, I have rather unkindly referred to this venue as a “dog track” and a “front-runners’ benefit” where you simply need to back the horse who is likely to…
