1.30 Beverley – DRAWN TO DREAM (1pt win – 8/1 William Hill, bet365)

There are three possible front-runners in this 1m4f handicap, including DRAWN TO DREAM, but I still want a small interest on in-form Jamie Osborne’s four-year-old. She qualified as a bet for me on a trainer angle in the 1m6f Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot – her stable debut and first start since leaving Germany – where she ran a blinder to finish a 66-1 sixth of 16, finishing just over three lengths behind the winner (needless to say I was on each-way four and five places!). She bombed out in the Queen Alexandra Stakes just four days later but clearly didn’t stay and the race no doubt came too soon. She showed plenty more when a 25-1 eighth of 13 in a 1m4f Listed contest at Newmarket when we last saw her, doing too much too soon in a race set up for the closers. The others who raced up with or in touch with the early pace that day were all beaten and plenty of them have run well since…

4th Nakheel, improved RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 3lb when 3rd to Scenic at York

5th Divina Grace, +7lb when landing HQ Listed race

6th One Evening, +11lb when 3rd by neck in Gr2 at Deauville

8th Drawn To Dream – N/A

10th Esmeray, +4lb when 5th to Scenic at York

11th Ching Shih, +5lb when 6th to Divina Grace

12th Ketteridge – N/A

…it’s a shame that Saffie Osborne isn’t riding but she’s still worth a bet. I’ll probably have a saving reversed forecast on THUNDERING/LOYAL TOUCH, the two hold-up horses in the race, just in case there’s a three-way pace war from the outset.

William Hill Silver Cup Handicap

2.40 Chester– YANIFER (1pt ew – 13/2 Paddy Power, Betfair, both five places)

There’s plenty of pace on offer in this extended 7f handicap and I like the claims of YANIFER
(stall 5 of 16 once adjusted for the non-runner), whose 7f win on August 4th took his form figures at Chester to 18231 (2-5), with excuses for the defeat (he sat too close to the strong early pace in a race set up for those ridden patiently). Harriet Bethell’s six-year-old has form figures when ridden by in-form Oisin McSweeney of 1121 (3-4), with the defeat by Tolstoy (winner again since) in a field of 18 at York. I’m going to save on fellow course expert REVICH and play the pair in a reversed Tote Exacta.

Livescore Bet Handicap

5.00 Chester – ROMAN DRAGON (1pt ew – 9/1 bet365)

ROMAN DRAGON is stuck out wide in stall 11 but with a host of front-runners in opposition the race should be run to suit. Hugo Palmer’s five-year-old has form figures over course and distance of 5111411 (5-7) for a profit of £13.99 to a £1 level stake at SP. He cut little ice in the Stewards’ Cup and Wokingham on his last two starts but was 100-1 on each occasion and he drops down to Class 3 level here.

Horse PWR Handicap

5.20 Sandown – GOOD EARTH (1.5pt win – 9/2 bet365)

GOOD EARTH has a fine record over a stiff five furlongs and returned to winning ways with a cosy success at Newmarket last time. Michael Herrington’s veteran has a combined record over the minimum trip here at Sandown, Beverley or Newmarket of 23411161 (4-8) for a profit of £17.70 to a £1 level stake at SP. He’s drawn wide but will be tucked in to track what should hopefully be a very strong gallop before pouncing late. I’ll also be having a reversed forecast with hat-trick seeker SPRING BLOOM.

Sky Bet Build A Bet Handicap

6.40 Chelmsford – HAPPY TEARS (1pt win – 9/2 bet365)

HAPPY TEARS could only finish fifth of nine at Nottingham last month on her debut for Daniel & Claire Kubler but that run, her first since October, was probably needed and she should be fitter this time. Horses having their second run for this yard after leaving the care of another trainer are seven from 36 for a profit of £10.72 to a £1 level stake at SP and the daughter of Dandy Man, well drawn in stall 1, showed form here for George Boughey.
