2.45 Catterick – RAIN CAP (1pt win – 12/1 bet365)

RAIN CAP caught the eye when third of seven in a soft-ground 5f  handicap here 16 days ago, doing best of the trio to race on the far side of the track when the action developed stands’ side. John Riches’ seven-year-old has a touch of the Mr Wagyus about him, performing best in high summer – his turf record from June to August reads 019577921317110120 (6-18) for a profit of £22.00. He’s just one from 30 outside of the June-August period with the win coming in September 2021. The step back up to 7f will suit, he’s well drawn and, like most progeny of Fountain Of Youth, he goes best after a very recent outing.

Congratulations Erin On Getting Married Handicap (Div I)

4.45 Haydock – RADIO GOO GOO (1.5pt win, 9/1 William Hill)

4.45 Haydock – BATAL DUBAI (0.5pt win, 9/1 William Hill)

Sixteen runners are due to go to post for this 6f Class 3 handicap but only one of them is a habitual front-runner – the David Evans-trained RADIO GOO GOO. The four-year-old filly appreciated the return to this trip when making all at Ripon last time to take her record in turf handicaps to 11114551 (5-8) for a profit of £26.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. In today’s class or lower, her figures improve to 1111 (4-4) and she could prove hard to catch under Richard Kingscote.

The Charlton yard has a cracking record when using first-time cheekpieces on a turf handicapper – 14 winners from 50 runners for a profit of £50.53 – and BATAL DUBAI, potentially well drawn in stall 14, could improve for the headgear. The four-year-old ran well at Newcastle last month on his first run since a gelding operation, finishing fourth of 14 behind Misty Grey (winner again since). He’s worth a saver.

5.05 Catterick – VADAMIAH (1pt win – 13/2 bet365)

VADAMIAH, who finished a close-up 14-1 third at Ripon on last month’s reappearance, will appreciate the return to Catterick where her record in handicaps reads 1411 (3-4), with the sole defeat excusable as she stumbled on leaving the stalls. Trainer Paul Midgley has been in great form of late (seven winners from 28 runners in the past fortnight) and his front-running mare could prove hard to pass.

5.52 Haydock – CHRISTAIN DAVID (1pt win – 8/1 bet365)

CHRISTIAN DAVID was an eyecatcher when 11th of 19 in a 7f handicap at Newmarket last time, doing fourth best of those drawn high when the low draws enjoyed a massive advantage (the first six home came from the six lowest draws). The step back up to 1m will suit, the fast ground won’t be an issue and, more interestingly, he could be in receipt of an easy lead from stall 1 in the first-time cheekpieces.
