12.23 Longchamp – BREIZH SKY (1pt ew – 12/1 William Hill, 11-1 generally)
BREIZH SKY finished seventh of 11 to Shouldvebeenaring in Group 3 company at Deauville last time but did too much too soon in a race set up for the closers and was only beaten by three lengths. He fared second best of those to race close to the early pace that day and will be much happier back at Longchamp where he rarely runs a bad race, recording form figures of 233140124 (2-9), improving to
214124 (2-6) below Group 1 level. He was only fourth when 2.1/1 favourite for this race 12 months ago but failed to settle and was still only beaten by a length and a half.

on my radar for this 6f premier handicap as he tends to perform best in spring/autumn. The gelding’s eight best RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) have come in March, September or October and the absence since May should be of little concern as he goes well when fresh. The six-year-old is also usually on the premises when contesting sprint handicaps, recording form figures of 12192153 (3-8). The ninth place came when failing to settle at Dundalk back in August 2021and the fifth place came in this race 12 months ago (33-1) when possibly finding the race coming too soon – just eights days after his Navan win, which came on the back of a 161-day break. It’s interesting to see him come straight here after being freshened up, rather than have a prep, and that could help him to improve on last year’s effort. I’ve saved on MY MATE ALFIE.
