1.15 Leicester – GETBAZOUTOFHERE (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)

In last week’s Myth-busters article (available on the GG.co.uk website) I discussed the track bias at Leicester and concluded that front-runners enjoyed a big edge over fences. That’s good news for GETBAZOUTOFHERE, successful from the front at Hereford the last twice. Tom Gretton’s eight-year-old won comfortably last time despite jumping out to her left on occasions. I put her up as a bet when fourth over course and distance on her chase debut last January and she ran well to finish fourth under a patient ride. She’s improved since forcing tactics were adopted and the pace map suggests that she won’t be taken on for the early lead today.

3.10 Fairyhouse – WASHINGTON (1pt win – 6/1 Paddy Power)

WASHINGTON
was a big eyecatcher in a 20-runner 2m handicap hurdle at Aintree for Olly Murphy in April 2023, finishing third despite racing in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail and chasing the strong early pace (the winner came late/wide). He fared second best of the prominent racers that day, with runner-up Blueking d’Oroux (now rated 16lb higher) doing best of them. He took a backward step in the Swinton Hurdle next time and pulled up over fences on his chase/seasonal debut (also his first start for Paul Nicholls) on his only run last term. Returned to hurdles when making his debut for Harry Derham in October, the eight-year-old was very heavily backed and won narrowly despite failing to settle in a small field. It looks significant that his trainer is willing to take on the Irish in their own back yard and the likely strong pace should ensure that he settles better this time..
