4.05 Plumpton – AURIGNY MILL (1pt e/w – 10/1 Betfair, Paddy Power, four places, 12/1 William Hill but only three places)
KNICKERBOCKERGLORY, OUR CHAMP and the fist-time blinkered SPIRIT D’AUNOU should ensure that the Sussex Champion Hurdle is run at a sound pace (AFADIL could also be up there) and this valuable class 2 handicap hurdle could be set up for a closer. AURIGNY MILL could only finish second to Lutrell Lad when I recommended him at Taunton last time, but he raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail and the small field/steady pace didn’t play to his strengths. His record for Robert Walford now reads 1612 (2-4), with excuses for the unplaced effort as he was badly hampered by a faller.
4.27 Southwell – ADELAIDE BAY (2pt win – 5/4 bet365)
ADELAIDE BAY disappointed when 9-4 favourite for his handicap debut at Chelmsford last September, coming home in seventh place, hanging badly left from his poor draw in stall 11. We saw a different animal at the Essex venue earlier this month on the back of a six-month break and gelding operation where he scored by just over three lengths in a 7f handicap. Progeny of his sire, New Bay, have a fine record on their second run after being gelded, landing 13 of their 49 starts (26.5%) for a profit of £45.75 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 7.99, A/E = 1.63). Those who finished first or second on their previous outing were six from 11 (+£26.95) and the switch to Tapeta should hold no fears on breeding.

Andrew’s Angles – How to Find Early-season Profits with Two-Year-Olds
With Cheltenham and Aintree behind us I’m going to turn my attention to the Flat turf season and attempt to identify some profitable angles. Two-year-old races can be a turn-off for punters at this time of year as we’re usually dealing with a host of unraced horses but there are plenty of winner-finding angles… Foaling…
