1.15 Curragh – THUNDER WONDER (1pt e/w – 8/1 bet365, 7/1 generally with the other firms paying four places)
I put THUNDER WONDER up as a bet at Musselburgh in April as I believed the turning track would suit him and he bolted up after being backed from 14-1 into 4-1. The three-year-old added another Musselburgh win earlier his month and his subsequent Britannia Stakes defeat is safely ignored as he has a poor record on straight courses – form figures of 3660 (0-4). When racing on turning tracks his record reads 131401 (3-6), with the ‘duck egg’ excusable as he got upset in the stalls, missed the break and was hampered early on. The Johnston yard has only had one runner in Ireland in these colours previously – I’m A Gambler, who landed the “Sovereign Path” Handicap at 18-1 back in 2022.
3.30 Curragh – HARRY’S HILL (1pt e/w – 12/1 William Hill, 11/1 generally)
Those readers with long memories may recall that I tipped HARRY’S HILL when he landed this race in 2023 after being backed from 33-1 into 14s. The reason for the bet that day was the draw, as Martin Hasset’s veteran had always seemed best when drawn very close to a running rail, his last six wins coming from stalls…
2 of 13 (Tipperary)
21 of 21 (today’s C&D)
2 of 8 (Bellewstown)
18 of 19 (Naas)
16 of 16 (this race two years ago)
1 of 13 (Bellewstown)
…he’s only had one good draw in several subsequent Curragh runs since that win two years ago, running second to KEKE (today’s favourite) when drawn in stall 15 of 15 last September and he’s 2lb lower today.
4.57 Uttoxeter – OSLO (1pt e/w – 9/1 Sky Bet, four places, 10/1 elsewhere but only three places)
OSLO tends to perform best in late spring/early summer, recording form figures over hurdles at this time of year of 1211B5 (3-6), improving to 1211B (3-5) in today’s Class 4 grade. Fergal O’Brien’s eight-year-old was a modest fifth of seven to Givemefive at Haydock in April on his latest jumps assignment but that was in Class 2 company and the form has been boosted – the winner went on to run fourth of 16 in the Grade 3 Swinton Handicap Hurdle, runner-up Got Grey scored over fences at Worcester earlier this week, third-placed Schmilsson is two from two over fences since and the 22-length seventh, Well Educated, placed the next twice. Oslo has run with credit on the Flat the last twice and the return to hurdles at a low level will suit, as should the likely strong pace.

Andrew’s Angles – A Look at British vs Irish Trainers on the Flat
During the jumps season we’re used to British trainers being on the receiving end of a good kicking from Willie Mullins and other Irish trainers. It must have been heartbreaking for Dan Skelton to try all season to land his first trainers championship only for Mullins to win easily despite not seemingly bothered until the…
