4.15 Southwell – LOVE SAFARI (1pt ew – 12-1 Ladbrokes, Betfred, 11-1 bet365, Sky Bet, all paying three places in this seven-runner contest)
It was desperately difficult to make up ground from off the pace in the 1m5f handicap won by Caballo De Mar at Ayr on September 20th where the first six finishers received the following close-up comments from the Racing Post…

LOVE SAFARI (“towards rear, some headway on out from over 2f out, no impression” fared best of the late closers when a 9-1 seventh of 13 on his first start since joining David O’Meara from Charlie Johnston, catching the eye with the way he travelled. His new trainer is quick to raise him in trip to 2m for the first time, perhaps on the advice of Danny Tudhope, who retains the ride. It’s also interesting to see him back on Tapeta, having finishing a narrow second at Newcastle on his only previous all-weather outing.

4.25 Curragh – MY MATE MOZZIE (1pt ew – 12-1 Sky Bet, eight places, otherwise 14-1 bet365, six places)
MY MATE MOZZIE has improved since his fifth place in last year’s Irish Cesarewitch and is taken to reward each-way support at a double-figure price. Gavin Cromwell’s eight-year-old has only scored once from ten start s on the Flat and has yet to win a handicap of any description but placed in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot this summer and his ninth of 20 in the Ebor was a useful effort given that he endured a wide draw from his poor wide draw (stall 13). Fourth-placed Epic Poet (stall 16) won next time out, 11th-placed Chillingham (stall 18) ran second to Not So Sleepy at Newbury on his next start, while 14th-palced Fairbanks improved his RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 10lb when fourth to Absurde at Chester.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Always Back an In-Form Filly in the Autumn
One racing cliché that’s often rolled out at this time of year is to “side with fillies in form”. However, you’ll rarely, if ever, hear a pundit or journalist back this up with data so I thought I’d take a closer look to see if this is a profitable punting angle. The following table shows…
