1.55 Musselburgh – AUTUMN RETURN (0.5pt e/w – 12/1 bet365, Ladbrokes, Coral, Betfred – all paying three places)
AUTUMN RETURN pulled up at Cheltenham last time but failed to handle the left-handed track, jumping persistently out to her right. Ruth Jefferson’s eight-year-old got away with this trait when successful in a match at left-handed Newcastle on her penultimate start but will be happier back on a right-handed course for the first time since September’s Perth win. Her full record right-handed stands at 111281 (4-6), with the sole unplaced effort excusable as she finished lame. She’s two from two at today’s venue and offers a spot of value against the market leaders. Asta La Pasta has obvious claims but is priced accordingly (11-8f), Insurrection looks short at 4-1 given Paul Nicholls’ four from 70 record with horses aged seven or older since October 1st, while Alien Storm looks vulnerable away from his beloved Plumpton.

2.25 Musselburgh – ANGLERS CRAG (1pt win, 15-2 Spreadex, 7-1 generally) & MAGNA SAM (10-1 Spreadex, 9-1 William Hill, bet365)
Out-and-out pacesetters King Turgeon, Cartonne and Bretney are likely to ensure a strong gallop in the 3m7f Edinburgh National and that’s good news for backers of ANGLERS CRAG, an eyecatcher at Market Rasen last time where he plugged on into fifth over a woefully inadequate 2m5.5f trip. Last year’s Eider winner will be happier back over a marathon trip and he landed the 2m7.5f handicap chase at this meeting last year by 11 lengths on his sole previous course outing.
MAGNA SAM won this race off a 6lb higher mark in 2023, and he was suffering from wind issues when pulled up in last year’s renewal. He also pulled up the next twice but returned from wind surgery with a promising 18-1 third at Doncaster just after Christmas and will be spot on fitness-wise to enhance his course record of 1117P (3-5). Trainer Alastair Ralph scored with Welsh Charger here yesterday and is now three from seven at this venue.
2.37 Lingfield – DILIGENT HARRY (2pt win – 5-2 Paddy Power, 9-4 generally)
DILIGENT HARRY is a 16-race maiden on turf but has a fantastic record on the all-weather in Britain, recording form figures of 1121321111 (7-10), with the runner-up efforts by a short head and a neck and the third place by just over one length when badly berthed in the 2021 renewal of the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle. The Clive Cox-trained seven-year-old beat Annaf into second place in this race 12 months ago and can confirm the form.
