3.40 Doncaster – SKI LODGE (1pt win – 2/1 bet365)
This 3m novices’ hurdle looks a good race to bet in as Thank You Ma’am has failed to convince on left-handed tracks, recording form figures of 02P (0-3), as compared to right-handed figures of 3322022213 (1-10). His poor strike-rate is also a concern. Hauraki Gulf needs mud and is 0-11 over hurdles, suggesting that this is a straight fight between Minella Rescue and SKI LODGE. The last-named is two from two under rules outside of his seasonal debuts and clocked a good time when scoring at Haydock on his latest start, his first run over today’s 3m trip.

3.52 Huntingdon – DIBBLE DECKER (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
Ludlow’s fences claim a higher percentage of fallers than most tracks but the betting market often fails to take this into account and we see plenty of suspect jumpers go off at short prices. DIBBLE DECKER made mistakes on his Ludlow debut last April, finishing a 4-1 fifth of seven, and it was a similar story in the Attwood Memorial Trophy Handicap Chase last month. Sent off at 9-2, he made a bad mistake at the 12th, lost his prominent position as a result, and though rallying to lead four out, another error at the second last put paid to his chance and he weakened to finish fifth. His record at Huntingdon reads 1112 (3-4), with the defeat by a neck, and I’m expecting a much-improved effort this afternoon. He won this race two years ago and the neck second came in last year’s renewal. Right-handed track expert EL RIO will be a tough nut to crack, and I’ll be saving on the El Rio/Dibble Decker forecast.
