12.55 Naas – EMBITTERED (1pt win – 16/1 generally)
EMBITTERED doesn’t look an obvious play in this 2m handicap chase as he’s an 11-year-old with form figures of P87 (0-3) for his new yard this season. However, the son of Fame And Glory gets cheekpieces for the first-time, a positive angle for his sire’s progeny (26 winners from 157 qualifiers, against an expected winners score of 18.04). He has only worn first-time headgear twice previously, landing a bumper in a tongue-tie before winning his maiden hurdle here in a hood. Those runs admittedly came some years for another yard, but the new headgear might just perk him up.

2.20 Chepstow- THOR DE CERISY (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)
THOR DE CERISY can’t have the ground deep enough and he hit form at about this time last year when conditions were suitable, falling late on with the race at his mercy at Uttoxeter in January before scoring over today’s course and distance the following month. Neil Mulholland’s veteran defied a market drift to win comfortably from his four rivals that day, clearly appreciating the small field, and followed up in a three-runner affair (also over course and distance). He improved for his comeback 28-1 twelfth of 14 behind Nocte Volatus on unsuitably quick ground to chase home Le Ligerien at Lingfield last month and the ground, officially soft with rain forecast, should be fine for him now returned to his favourite venue.
