3.00 Exeter – DOES HE KNOW (1pt win – 4/1 Paddy Power, 888Sport, 7/2 generally)
Ten-year-olds, the youngest age group eligible to take part, have a superior record in veterans’ handicap chase and DOES HE KNOW fits the bill on his debut in this company. Kim Bailey has a good record in these races – five winners from 23 runners, regardless of age, for a profit of £12.83 to a £1 level stake at SP – and the top weight will find this company easier after taking on younger rivals when a close-up fourth to behind Charlie Uberalles, Docpickedme and Forward Plan at Doncaster last time. That form was boosted when the runner-up landed the Great Yorkshire Chase on his next start and Does He Know looks the value call against main danger Copperhead, a qualifier on the Joe Tizzard last-time-out winners system discussed in this column prior to Star Of Affinity’s Kempton win on Friday. I’ll be playing the pair in a reversed forecast or Tote Exacta.

4.30 Chepstow – PRIDE OF PARIS (1.5pt win – 7/2 bet365)
In-form Harry Derham has a fantastic record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, especially in handicaps, scoring with 16 of the 33 qualifiers (prior to Ballygriffincottage’s run at Newbury on Saturday) for a profit of £41.60 to a £1 level stake at SP. PRIDE OF PARIS, ex-Victor Dartnall, looks a likely improver on his debut for his new handler though doesn’t need to improve on the speed figures he clocked for his old in order to take a hand in the finish. He pulled up on good ground at Warwick in the spring when we last saw him but he’s much happier in the mud and his only run hurdles run left-handed with underfoot conditions to suit saw him beat Kruger Park at Fontwell last January.
