THAPA VC has won just once from 22 starts in Class 4 or higher company and caught the eye when returned to Class 5 level at Wolverhampton last time, going down by just two lengths in a 10-1 fifth when poorly drawn (first five drawn 4, 3, 2, 1 and 10 of 11) and pulling hard off a steady pace in the early stages. Mark Rimell’s veteran has won ten of his 26 starts in Class 5 or lower company at today’s 7f trip (+£28.75 to a £1 level stake at SP) and LILKIAN and G’DAAY, who received then comments “made all set fast pace” and “chased clear leader” respectively when one-two at Chelmsford last time, will hopefully ensure a decent gallop.
7.00 Newcastle – FLYING FLETCHER (1pt e/w – 12/1 William Hill)
FLYING FLETCHER has a good record in handicaps on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface, recording form figures of 511933 (2-6), with the fifth place at 33-1 and the ninth when poorly drawn in a hot Class 3 handicap. His 6f course record below Class 3 level reads 113 (2-3), with the defeat by just half a length when doing best of those to come from off the pace. His patient style was also at a disadvantage when a half-length third of six over 7f here last time and tonight’s bigger field will play to his strengths.
