ELA’S GEM caught the eye when a hampered one-length sixth of 12 to Bowerchalke at Kempton on debut last November in a 1m fillies’ maiden that has produced winners. Ed Walker’s daughter of Nathanial looks set for a good season now switched to turf and upped to 1m2f and her trainer does well with three-year-olds on turf who were having their second career start, scoring with 18 of the 82 qualifiers since the beginning of 2018 for a profit of £99.16 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 9.73, A/E = 1.85). James Owens’ 65,000gns newcomer LOTHBURY is a half-sister to a winning debutante and looks the chief threat.
9.00 Leicester Thursday 26th June – CANDLE OF TIME (1pt win – 4/1 bet365)
CANDLE OF TIME shaped encouragingly in maiden company on Tapeta on her second and third starts and took a step forward on her handicap/turf debut at Carlisle last time when we were on. Going down by two lengths in a 9-1 fourth after racing closer to the inside rail than ideal and meeting trouble in running. She was especially eyecatching at Southwell on her second start when a 250-1 sixth of 11 to Port Light, a winner again since who is now rated 100. That form has also been boosted by third-place Molveno, who landed his next three starts and is now rated 90, and fifth home Arcturus Flame, successful at 16-1 on his next outing (now rated 73).
She looks nicely drawn in stall 4 of 11 and there should be a soldi gallop on thanks to ROKUNI and SHIELAS WELL.
The last-named has the worst of the draw but clocked a good time when scoring at Ripon last time and is worth a saver.
