3.57 Warwick – CARAMELO RAPIDO (1pt win – 10/1 bet365)
CARAMELO RAPIDO was a non-runner on account of fast ground when I recommended him at Haydock on March 19th and I’m hoping that the forecast showers materialise today. Mark Walford’s six-year-old caught the eye when a 100-1 six-length third in a good-ground Stratford bumper on his rules debut for Max Young in September, doing best of the closers, and would have needed his first two runs for his current yard this year on the back of a break. He shaped well when an 80-1 fourth at Carlisle last time and we can expect improvement on his handicap debut.

6.00 Chelmsford – ONE FOR HARVEY (1pt e/w – 6/1 bet365)
Stall 8 of 8 makes life a little tricky for ONE FOR HARVEY in this modest 6f handicap but she has the early speed to get across and was the victim of a very strong track bias when only seventh of eight at Lingfield last time where she made the early run against the ‘dead’ rail. Fellow front-runner She Went Whoosh, two places ahead of her in a seven-length fifth, left-that form behind when runner-up at Wolverhampton on her next start and the return to Chelmsford will suit. Her two runs here – both in 6f maidens – produced a 20-1 third of 14 when drawn widest of all and a two-length fourth of 11 (11-4f). The three that beat her that day are now rated 75, 74 and 60, suggesting that tonight’s mark of 60 is by no means harsh.
6.45 Wolverhampton – CINQUE VERDE (1pt win – 6/1 bet365)
CINQUE VERDE did this column a favour when scoring at an SP of 18-1 (1.5pt advised at 10-1) over course and distance on January 11th and can be forgiven her two subsequent defeats – she blew the start when third of five over 6f at Kempton next time and then had no chance after making the running in the ‘swamp’ in a 7f Class 2 fillies’ handicap at Lingfield, trailing home in tenth of the 11 runners. Brazilian Rose – eighth from stall 4 in that contest after also taking in the inside route in the early stages – went close at Newcastle next time (second by a short head at 8-1) and the return to Wolverhampton will suit. Tony Carroll’s five-year-old has had just five runs over 5f at Wolverhampton, winning twice (18-1 and 4-1), finishing second by half a length (9-2), fourth by three-quarters of a length (14-1) and fifth by three lengths after racing wide and meeting trouble (10-1). Tonight’s eight-runner line-up looks ideal, as progeny of Sioux Nation typically do well in small fields (ten or fewer runners), especially over 5f-7f. Backing all 506 qualifiers would have found 106 winners (21% strike-rate) for a profit of £151.66 to a £1 level stake at SP.
