4.10 Haydock – PRINCESS NIYLA (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
PRINCESS NYLA recorded a good speed figure – the best last time out rating (according to Proform) in today’s line-up – when a 16-1 fifth to Gincident in a Class 4 handicap at Beverley last week and Alan Brown’s mare looks worth a bet in this weaker contest. The daughter of Night Of Thunder is best in small fields on turf and two of her three wins have come in July. She rarely races in fillies’ handicaps, but this will be her first start against her own sex since her solid 10-1 third at Wetherby on Aril’s reappearance when doing clear best of those to come from off the pace. She ran off 66 that day and is back on the same mark having been generously dropped 2lb for her Beverley run.
5.57 Bellewstown – EXCEEDING (0.5pt e/w – 16/1 generally))
EXCEEDING is a 20-race maiden but only nine of those came on turf and he’s shown enough in his recent starts to suggest that there’s a small race in him on this surface. Andrew Slattery’s four-year-old caught the eye when a 14-1 fifth of 16 to Deuteronomy in an apprentice handicap at Limerick last time, making ground on the ‘dead’ inside rail from stall 2 when it was a big advantage to challenge wide (first two drawn in stalls 13 and 16). He fared second best of the closers when fourth to the same rival at Gowran Park on his penultimate start and, from what looks a good draw in stall 2 this evening, it will be disappointing if he doesn’t hit the frame.t…
6.58 Kempton – SIEMPRE ARTURO (1pt e/w – 12/1 William Hill)
SIEMPRE ARTURO disappointed at York last time but that was in Class 2 company, and he’ll be happier back at Class 3 level on the all-weather today. The Daniel and Claire Kubler-trained five-year-old has form figures in Class 3 or lower company on the all-weather, without headgear, of 121013 (3-6), with the ‘duck egg’ coming in the valuable 14-runner all-weather vase apprentice handicap at Lingfield where he did too much too soon. He caught the eye over course and distance on his penultimate start, doing best of the closers in third and the patiently-ridden fifth, Turquino, was a wide-margin winner at York last Saturday. The runners who finished seventh, ninth and 11th under similar rides have run well in defeat since and this 14-runner contest should be run to suit. CHARMAINE heads the market (9-2 with William Hill at the time of writing) but her three wins have come against her own sex and she’s 0-4 when taking on the boys.

Andrew’s Angles – Going Back to Nursery School With Tips For Two-Year-Old Handicaps
The first nursery – handicaps for two-year-olds – takes place at Haydock this Thursday (July 3rd) and I want to use this week’s article to discuss these notoriously tricky races and give some pointers as to how we can profit from them. This could end up being a short article as one profitable putting method…
