5.55 Wolverhampton – HANDLE WITH CARE (1pt win) – 9/2 bet365
Marco Botti’s HANDLE WITH CARE showed good early speed to lead from a wide draw in a 6f fillies’ maiden at Windsor in late July where she faded into fourth after doing too much too soon. She also showed ability at Windsor on her debut, again finishing fourth, and I like the switch to Tapeta
this evening. Her trainer has won with 56 of his 265 runners (21.1%) who were switched from turf to Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface and, Handle With Care, the mount of Marco Ghiani, looks the yard’s first string.
8.30 Wolverhampton – CAREY STREET (1pt ew) – 7/2 bet365, Paddy Power
I always make a note of wide-drawn non-runners at the likes of Chester, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton and CAREY STREET was scratched from stall 13 of 13 ahead of an intended run in an 8.6f handicap here in early June. Four of the veteran’s last five wins for Linda Stubbs came at Dunstall Park and he caught the eye on his debut for Tony Carroll when a 22-1 fifth of 13 to Pink Lily at Bath. The winner of that 1m2f Class 6 handicap followed up in a higher grade at Goodwood and the runner-up, Sisterandbrother, was successful at Haydock shortly afterwards. Carey Street has been beaten twice since but those runs came on turf and the return to this venue could spark a revival. He’s not best drawn in stall 10 but there’s only one other prominent racer in the line-up and he should be able to get across and obtain a good position.

However, in his latest Myth Busters column, Andrew Mount examines whether this is still so evidently the case. As a punter who once specialised in draw bias (I co-wrote two books on the subject in…
