2.00 Salisbury – ASTRAZAR (1pt win – 3/1 generally)

ASTRAZAR was sent off at 40-1 for his debut at Ascot last month and ran accordingly, finishing just under nine lengths behind the winner, Military Code, in last of seven. That form has been boosted by subsequent wins from the runner-up/third and second time out is usually when to side with Ed Walker’s juveniles. Backing every second time out two-year-old his trainer has every saddled would have found 50 winners from 278 bets (18% strike-rate) including seven from 26 for those ridden by Tom Marquand (on board today) for a profit of £22.06 to a £1 level stake at SP. One of those wins came in this race two years ago (11-1 shot Ardennes) and Astrazar can follow suit.

6.10 Catterick – SELWAN (1pt e/w – 8/1 William Hill, 15/2 bet365)

It was incredibly difficult to come from off the pace at the Carlisle meeting on 30th May and the Chris Kellett-trained SELWAN deserved extra credit for his patiently-ridden 15-2 third to Idyllic in the 1m3f Class 6 handicap. That was a big improvement from his stable/seasonal debut just 13 days earlier when he finished last of six at Doncaster and there could be more to come this evening. The form of that Carlisle run was given a minor boost when the seven-length 33-1 fifth – Toronto Raptor – finished third at the same price at Pontefract last night. There’s been money around for PAPER DOLL (5-1) ahead of her debut for Tristan Davidson, but her new handler is just one from 44 with stable switchers in the past five years and that came over hurdles. The chief threat is likely to come from STELLARMASTERPIECE, whose record over course and distance reads 3112 (2-4). However, her price is well covered in offers of around 7-2 and the first-time cheekpieces are a slight concern given her yard’s two from 61 record with Flat turf runners in this headgear.

7.10 Catterick – LITTLE KEILEE (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, 5/1 generally)

LITTLE KEILEE has joined in-form James Owen since running fifth in a Dundalk claimer in late March and looks very interesting in this 7f handicap on the balance of her Irish turf form with cut in the ground. Her new handler has a fine record on the Flat (turf and all-weather combined) at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, scoring with 18 of the 60 qualifiers (30% strike-rate) for a profit of £26.78 to a £1 level stake at SP. The strike-rate improves to 37.5% on turf (nine winners from 24 bets, +£20.00). Hollie Doyle, on board tonight, is 1-1 on stable switchers for the yard (4-1).
