2.30 Lingfield – EIGHT MILE (1pt win) – 9/4 bet365
EIGHT MILE was beaten by four lengths when third in a 1m amateur riders’ handicap here last time, but he sat too close to the very strong early pace in a race set up for the closers. The winner, runner-up and fourth all came from well off the pace and George Scott’s four-year-old was a length and a half in front of
the next prominent racer to finish, the 3-1 favourite Olympicus. His trainer has a fine recent record with geldings in all-weather handicaps, scoring with 33 of the 128 qualifiers since the beginning of 2022 for a profit of £23.21 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 22.10, A/E = 1.49) and he should get a
good tow into the race from San Francisco Bay.

5.35 – Lingfield – KALAMUNDA (2pt win) – 11/8 bet365
KALAMUNDA won easily when a bet for us at Southwell last week, a run that took his all-weather record to 111 (3-3). Joseph Parr’s four-year-old has winning form on Polytrack, is tactically versatile and is going to be very difficult to beat under a penalty.
6.15 Galway – BELHAVEN (1pt win) – 10/1 William Hill
Jospeh O’Brien’s BELHAVEN narrowly landed a 1m2.5f fillies’ handicap on officially yielding to soft going at Sligo on her seasonal/stable debut in early May and can be forgiven her two subsequent defeats, as both came on unsuitably fast ground. She still managed to finish a solid 11-1 second of 11 in a 1m4f fillies’ handicap at the Curragh last time and she gets her preferred underfoot conditions today. She had plenty of form on soft/heavy ground when trained by Harry Eustace and she looks a good bet, despite stepping back up to Listed level.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Can we trust the official going description or is it usually wrong?
Haydock stages the Group 1 Sprint Cup this Saturday (September 7th, 2024) where the official going at the time of writing is ‘good to soft, soft in places’ with a GoingStick reading of 6.00. Of the three weather forecasts I study, the one I trust the most has just 3.5mm of rain due to fall…
