2.45 Wincanton – YGGDRASIL (1pt win – 11/2 bet365) & HARJO (1pt win – 10/1 bet365)

Pace angle YGGDRASIL could go well in this 2m4f handicap chase, despite the 556-day absence since his Bangor third on his debut for David Pipe back in June of last year. Pipe-trained chasers who were returning from a break of at least 150 days have a solid record in the first half of the peak jumps season (October to January), landing 78 of their 361 starts (21.6% strike-rate) for profit of £136.71 to a £1 level stake at SP. The latest Wincanton qualifier – Remastered – won at 11-1 in October.

I also want to side with last year’s winner HARJO, despite four pulled-ups from his last five starts. Charlie Longsdon’s seven-year-old has had a wind operation since we last saw him and his in-form handler has scored with three of his last six wind-op recipients (14-1, 5-1 and 11-4). The wind surgery, combined with the return to his venue, could spark a revival.

3.45 Wincanton – JAMINSKA (1.5pt win – 9/2 bet365)

JAMINSKA
was pulled up when the 3-1 favourite at Exeter 11 days ago but his saddle slipped and it’s safe to draw a line through that effort. The Jane Williams-trained five-year-old ran well at the same venue on his penultimate start, chasing home Asian Spice who boosted the form when following up at Windsor last Sunday. The third from that race, Brenda’s Asking, finished a good second at Ludlow on her next outing, while the fourth, Micronormous, scored at Fakenham. Harry Fry’s MISS GOLDFIRE, only beaten by a little over nine lengths when last of seven in the Asian Spice/Jaminska race, could be the one for the forecast.
