3.17 Exeter – STONER’S CHOICE (1pt win – 5/2 bet365)
STONER’S CHOICE has a good record in the spring, recording form figures in the March to May period of 211411 (4-6) for a profit of £18.63. The fourth place came in Class 1 company and is safe to ignore (he’s 0-9 above Class 3 level). The Fergal O’Brien-trained ten-year-old is the right age group for this veterans’ handicap chase (ten-year-olds, the youngest age group eligible to take part, out-perform their older rivals in these contests) and the fast ground will suit.

3.35 Wetherby – GRAND ALBERT (1.5pt win – 100/30 William Hill)
Poor old GRAND ALBERT has been unlucky to bump into three subsequent Cheltenham festival winners in three of his last four starts and looks to have been found a good winning opportunity today. Donald McCain’s seven-year-old had no answer to Myretown (winner of the Ultima on his next outing) when a distant third at Kelso last month, was only eight lengths behind Caldwell Potter (winner of the 2m4f novice handicap chase last week) when third at Carlisle on his comeback in early December and, on his final start last term, was just one length behind Haiti Couleurs at Bangor (winner of the 3m6f novice handicap at Cheltenham). He was a 25-length winner over today’s track and trip on his penultimate start and though well beaten last time, the first-time cheekpieces could help. Chase progeny of his sire Jet Away have an eight from 21 record when fitted with this headgear for a profit of £21.95 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 2.64, A/E = 3.03).
6.30 Wolverhampton – VOLTAIC (1pt win – 5/1 bet365)
The form of Jesse Luc’s victory in a 6f amateur riders’ handicap at Southwell on February 15th worked out extremely well, with the winner following up at Chelmsford, runner-up So Grateful going one better at Newcastle last week and the fifth, Raft Up, scoring twice at Newcastle. Tonight, it is the turn of Tony Carroll’s VOLTAIC, beaten by two and a half lengths when third in that Southwell contest. The veteran is tactically versatile and I’m hoping/expecting that Rossa Ryan will hold him up tonight, as there are plenty of pace angles in opposition and he’s back up in trip to 7f.
