1.38 Southwell – ORMOLULU (2pt win – 6/1 bet365)
ORMOLULU won her maiden over 6f at Southwell for Jamie Osborne back in May 2023 but was only asked to race at the Nottinghamshire venue on one further occasion for her old yard, finishing a respectable 12-1 sixth of 14 from a poor wide draw last summer. She changed hands for 7,000gns last autumn and new handler Gemma Tutty was quick to send her back to Southwell, running third in a 6f handicap despite clipping heels and stumbling. Her four subsequent runs over this track and trip have returned form figures of 3111 (3-4), with the defeat by just half a length. He bolted up last time despite blowing the start – not for the first time – and is likely to prove hard to beat.

2.25 Newbury – PEPE LE MOKO (1pt win – 33/1 bet365)
Jane Williams has a good record when fitting one of her chasers with first-time cheekpieces, recording from figures of 12F121F136 (4-10) for a profit of £30.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (since the beginning of 2018). One of the fallers, In Rem, won next time out at odds of 17-2 and I’m expecting improvement from PEPE LE MOKO now that he gets the headgear for the first time. The seven-year-old has proved disappointing since comfortably justifying 5-6 favouritism off a 3lb lower mark at Kempton in the corresponding week last year but drops down to Class 4 level for the first time since his reappearance victory at Warwick last season and is worth chancing to small stakes.
