12.50 Ludlow – UNDERSUPERVISION (1pt win – 8/1 William Hill)
UNDERSUPERVISION doesn’t look an obvious bet in this 3m handicap chase have pulled up in his last three starts and in five of his last six. However, all those runs came in big fields, three of them at Class 1 level, and Nigel Twiston-Davies’ eight-year-old has always seemed happiest in small fields and at a lower level. His point-to-point win came in a field of nine runners and his two wins under Rules came in fields of seven and five runners. Flat tracks suit and his trainer has a good record with chasers on their second run after a wind operation, scoring with four of his 14 runners for a profit of £10.50 to a £1 level stake at SP (NB. He had wind surgery prior to his latest effort but his trainer neglected to declare it, hence why this information does not appear on the Racing Post website). The first-time visor is another potential source of improvement, and he could go well in this seven-runner Class 3 contest.

6.40 Kempton – KALAMUNDA (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
KALAMUNDA did this column a favour when winning well backed at Southwell on September 3rd (SP 9-2) and did so again when successful at 17-1 in a 1m Kempton handicap on October 2nd, a run that took his all-weather record to 11111 (5-5). That 100% strike-rate came to an end when an 8-1 third of six in Class 2 company at Southwell last time (when we were also on) where the steady early pace, small field and step up in grade all contributed to his defeat. Joseph Parr’s four-year-old will be better suited by tonight’s 12-runner Class 3 contest and Hieronymus and Fast Society should ensure a sufficiently strong early gallop (the first-time visored Tasdeed could also put pace to the race).

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Does Cheltenham Form Translate from the Old Course to the New Course?
We have a two-day Cheltenham meeting to get stuck into at the end of the week (Friday/Saturday) where the action switches from the Old Course – used during October/November – to the New Course.
