3.05 Ludlow – REGAL RENAISSANCE (1pt win – 7/2 bet365)
It paid to race handily in the 2m4.5f Class 3 mares’ handicap chase won by 22-1 shot Game On For Glory(tipped in this column) at Cheltenham on December 14th where REGAL RENAISSANCE caught the eye in fourth place, doing best of those to come from the rear (“towards rear, headway after 4f out”). Fifth-placed Theonewedreamof (“towards rear”) won at Punchestown on her next start, while tenth-placed Shakeytailfeather (“midfield”) improved her RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 33lb when a 20-1 fourth at Taunton next time. Regal Renaissance was well held at Fakenham on her next outing, but she was up against the likes of the progressive Telepathique in Class 2 company and she started at 16-1. Henry Daly’s seven-year-old is back down to Class 3 level today, has won here twice before and Sam Twiston-Davies, on board for her last two wins, takes over from David Bass.

8.30 Kempton – RAY GUN (1pt win – 6/1 bet365)
RAY GUN has shown promise in three novice/maiden contests over 8.6f/1m2f and looks ready to take a step forward now handicapping over 1m4f. Jamie Osborne’s three-year-old was especially eyecatching in Destructive’s maiden over the 9.4f trip at Wolverhampton last time, keeping on into a never-nearer 28-1 sixth of ten. That form has received a few boosts, with the winner being awarded a mark of 91 after following up in handicap company and runner-up Wanderlust going down by just half a length when 13-2 for a 1m Southwell maiden. The 100-1 sixth, Media Mogul, ran fourth in a Kempton handicap off 62 next time and an opening mark of 61 looks workable. Ray Gun has been gelded since Wolverhampton and his trainer does well with handicap debutants, scoring with 67 of the 621 qualifiers this century (10.8% strike-rate) for a profit of £95.56 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 55.19, A/E = 1.21). Those beaten in their prep race were 50 from 488 (10.25%) for a profit of £122.72.

Andrew Mount’s tips for Wednesday, 19th February 2025
Andrew Mount’s Cheltenham Focus – Fred Winter a Focal Point for Opening Day Profit
This week I’m going to take a detailed looked at the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, best known as the Fred Winter and a race with a history of shock results. Had we backed all 451 runners in this 2m contest since its inception in 2005 we’d have lost only £5.00 to a £1 level stake…
