1.25 Lingfield – THE DEFIANT (1pt e/w – bet365, 888Sport, 9/1 generally)
At first glance it’s tempting to conclude that front-runners Mick’s Spirit (stall 1 of 9) and THE DEFIANT (stall 2) will take each other on for the lead and set this 5f handicap up for a closer but the last-named, who drops from Class 4 to Class 5 level after his 50-1 course and distance second last Saturday, is just as happy sitting on the shoulder of a fast leader as making the running himself and he’s scored twice when Mick’s Spirit was in opposition. Luke Dace’s veteran has form figures over the minimum trip on Polytrack if 1114212896731533125222 (6-22), improving to 1114173131522 (6-13) when running in Class 5 or lower company after a recent run (1-21 days) for a profit of £14.88. It’s probably coincidence but he was drawn in stall 2 for three of those runs and he won them all.

2.38 Catterick – KOMEDY KICKS (1pt win – 7/2 generally)
KOMEDY KICKS tended to jump out to her left when trained by Jessica Harrington and Milton Harris and did so again when a 25-1 fourth (beaten by 5.5 lengths) in a Class 2 mares’ handicap hurdle at Ludlow on last month’s debut for Dan Skelton. The switch to left-handed Kelso brought improvement next time where she scored with plenty in hand and she’s taken to defy a 5lb rise, despite taking on make rivals this time.
