3.00 Musselburgh – ROSIE GREY (0.5pt ew – 25/1 bet365, 16/1 generally)
I wrote the following about ROSIE GREY after her run at Beverley on July 16th…
‘ROSIE GREY won’t be going into many trackers on the strength of her 16-length 40-1 sixth of seven in the 5f AceOdds Bet Calculator EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Beverley last week but rewind to her debut effort at Redcar in June and there’s hope that she can pick up a race when handicapping at a low level. The daughter of Havana Grey blew the start that day and could never strike a blow, going down by seven lengths in seventh of nine. That race has worked out extremely well, with the winner, runner-up and fourth all scoring subsequently and several others running well in defeat.’
Rosie Grey didn’t run well on her handicap debut – finishing ninth of ten at Beverley – but she was poorly drawn and did attract last market interest (12-1 from 18-1). She’s well drawn in stall 7 of 9 for this 5f handicap and looks worth a small each-way punt.
4.35 Musselburgh – SHOWTIME MAHOMES (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 generally)
SHOWTIME MAHOMES was drawn on the wrong side when 11th of 16 in a hot 6f handicap at Ripon last time and Grant Tuer’s five-year-old looks very interesting now bac at Musselburgh where’s he’s unbeaten in two starts. He was a big eyecatcher on the all-weather at Southwell back on March 28th, doing second best of the closers when it paid to race on the front end. He has a tricky draw in stall 10 but should be able to tuck in and the likely strong pace will suit.

The world of horse racing no longer allows for the old-fashioned skulduggery that used to pervade the sport. However, in this week’s Myth Busters column, Andrew Mount asks whether “gambling yards” still exist, ones which love to land a touch with a well-backed favourite. When I first became interested in horse racing some stables were…
